High HP tunes & head gaskets
I just finished installing my fabtech 6" radius arm lift and 37" tires. Im now looking at tuners. I know i wont be able to keep from running the big tunes but am worried about blowing my head gaskets. Everyone says you should install studs but do i really need to. My local performance diesel shop says the 6.4s are fine on the big tunes. I have read of many people that also have had no issues. I have not heard from anyone that has actually blown a head gasket while running a big tune. Is there anyone out there that has?

it depends on the way you drive and how you take care of it. eventually the studs are gonna go. i have been daily driving h&s hot damn 300 for the past 8000 miles and so far so good. I have ran it at the track and get on it every once in a while. but you need to make sure you wait to get on it until its warmed up, wait till egt's are cooled down before shutting it down. you could run h&s hot damn on mild which is plus 120hp with dpf delete which is plenty of power but is still a lot safer than the +300hp

The weight and tire size will not be your friend when it comes to your head gaskets and running a big tune.

There are lots of guys with 6.4 who have blown HG including myself. On the others hand there are lots running big tunes with zero problems. You play you pay don't be shocked if they do go

Lol. I have a funny story. So I had an SCT with the KEM 250 tune on my truck for about 20k miles and then recently got a h&s. I had the minimax on my truck for maybe 20 minutes and my hg's gave way. I love it!
