My 71 build and the problem it found.

My build all started when my truck started to puke so i set the plans in motion and did my research and talked with people on the forums and at rudys. I planed on just studs and gaskets that in turn became studs, gaskets, a 71mm from rudys with a batmo for the hp turbo, and 6.0 manis and custom up pipes. Dropped the truck off last week monday and the shop had it all done and together by friday, thats when the problems began. The truck had an injector stuck open and was loading the cylinder so the shop swapped it out on there expense since it was fine when it went in. All back together two more injectors stuck open =/, they tear all the injectors out and now have given me 3 new ones on there expense and send them to diesel power to be cleaned and checked. The shop found metal shavings in all the injectors and said my HPFP is going out. They asked if i had a lack in power and i said it felt like it didnt make good power down low. So now at this point the shop is hooking me up got a new HPFP with 1 year warranty as i dont want to add fuel or a wastegate at this point and for money reasons cut the labor rate in half for pulling the cab a second time =/. Hopefully this thing will be damn near bullet proof minus the CCV mod i plan on doing soon. sorry for the long post

Well that sucks but at the same time its good. At least they found the problem and fixed the leaking injectors before they melted a cylinder.

ya i thought something else was up just sucks it was that. never could spin the tires on the hd 300 tune but my 6.0 use to every time.

I asked about it the shop said everything looked great inside and out before this happened so i feel somewhat ok glad it happened there i guess.

the loss of power down low- did it feel like a lot of lag? sorry to ask in your misfortune.

kind of ya but it made good power up top i thought. If i mashed it in 2wd not boosted from the light it would go but not spin or anything, back when i had my 6.0 it would lag a little then spin like crazy. I plan on keeping this truck now until i die or it does lol

got my truck back this week and i must say it is night and day difference. The 71 with batmo is louder in cab but doesnt seem to much outside. The power is awesome i feel my stock trans and converter are holding the truck back still. No complaints about this setup at all and my EGTs have dropped a lot more to, idk what helped that more the turbo or 6.0 manis and up pipes. If you do studs i think it is worth swapping the manifolds after seeing my stock ones. i plan on doing the ccv mod next month and hopefully KEM tunes with one of my next few pay checks.

also if you suspect your hp fuel going out change it, i should have taken a picture of it but where the gear sits in side it was all chewed up and took out 4 injectors with it. thankfully the shop covered those on there dime. Truck only has 66XXX on it so i guess its time for opti lube.

glad you like your truck and runs well. cant wait to do mine. couple derrails and i want to install my airdog first.

do you think it couldve been water in fuel?
