Towing milage

I used my 5th wheel this weekend for the first time with the tune and the delete's I went 65mph cruise flat driving on hot dam power (50) with SSL 1 trans tune. I got 11.5 and 9.5 MPG, Is that right? I also only have got the best average of 17 to 18 MPG with nothing in the truck on mild tune. Anyone with these results? or is something wrong?

What is the approx. weight on your trailer, and what gears are you running?

Those are the first two factors I consider when you talk about mileage towing.

FOR COMPARISON

not tuned....3:55 gears and about 18000lb combined.....ran 1200 miles to bishop ca from central az [cruise set at 65]....i never reset comp. milage...starting trip was 12.5 mpg...end of trip 11.4 mpg.........regen every 180-200 miles....oil temp and coolant temp 230* at times....intake air 150* at times...tranny temp stayed good..never above 207*.gotta say my 90 gals of onboard fuel at start of trip was treated with diesel clean and my regens were 350-400 miles apart ...didnt use additive after that and regens alot more frequent.[yes i know you guys dont regen any more ].

11.4 on the Fool Computer is probably 9.5 to 10 real MPG.

Unless you have changed the wheels the odometer is very accurate. The gallons on the dispenser pump is also much more accurate than Ford's Fool Computer.

You need to spend some time noting both for comparison. I find Ford lies by 15% to 20%. Recently 14.6 displayed was 14.3 shown, and I was shocked. First tank of the day. But the next was also 14.6 showing and only 12.2. The next was showing 13 but was a touch over 10. Towing 6,000 pounds and staying under 60 MPH.

The 10 MPH had a lot of slow off-road towing and idling just to run the A/C. MPH improved on the return trip but still in the 12's.
