egr= exhaust gas release and it cools the exhaust coming out of your vehicle its all emissions stuff the trucks run a little cooler with no egr and less chance of the egr failing leading to bigger problems

The EGR recirculates a portion of your exhaust gases back into the engine for a second burn. The EGR is there for emissions purposes and will create problems for your engine. Do a search here, you will see pics of what the EGR coolers and intake elbow looks like after a while, disgusting. Imagine running a marathon and having to breathe through a straw thats hooked up to your butt. Not good.
