Holy black smoke!
well started last night and got my h&s mini maxx along with dpf delete pipe( i already have 5" dpf back). well only snags i ran into was the second bolt on the pipe that bolts to the down pipe. the bolt up top was tough to get to but a 3" extension and thank god for my snap on swivel sockets, made the job a breeze.
anyway, i put the low boost fuel setting on 3, people said 5 was crazy smoke but turbo spools up faster so i chose 3 because its right in the middle. and i havent done tranny relearn yet but i drove it down the street on mild setting and this thing has already coated my 6" tip. is it suppose to be this much soot, my 6.0 took a good drive to cover the brand new tip but my 6.0 hardly smoked at all. im not a fan of it because smoking is like a dodge thing to me, and i just wanted to be sure its not out of the ordinary, or did i do something wrong? im gonna go take it for a drive to the jobsite and drop off some stuff and see how it does and do the tranny relearn process. to cut down on smoke- - i havent put on my afe stage 2 cold air intake yet -i heard running fuel additive helps reduce black smoke( i use powerservice white bottle right now in winter on my 6.0) -or should i just take the low boost fueling down to 0 or 1 im guessing you have to reload the tune in order to change low boost fueling? thanks guys |

Yes I was in the same boat and set my low boost fueling to 0. People will say it doesn't smoke on 0 but it still does. Not as much as on 3 though, but it really does at WOT! Yes you have to re download the tune. This is part of the reason I am in the market for a highflow cat, to cut down or eliminate smoke

Seems like h&s will do that, maybe some tunes from kem?

i have it set to mild and i drove prolly 40 minutes and it only smokes if you stab it. as long as you ease into the throttle, there isnt any smoke. im about to put my intake, hopefully more air will cut down the smoke. we will see. im just glad its no me, didnt want it pumping raw fuel into the exhuast haha

Well I have my low boost fuel setting at 0, and my H&S tune set on hot (250hp I believe) and it only smokes at WOT, and even then its just a light haze. Why do you have your low boost fueling at 3? Oh and the bolt on the down pipe can be accessed thru a hole on the outside of the frame, I used a 6" extension and a deep well socket on my ratchet.

I tried 0 and its a bit more slugish off the line and i get metter milage on low boost 3. Low Boost setting is fuel ratio for 0-15 PSI of boost. 0 setting is factory fuel ratios up to 15 psi boost. 1-5 adds the H&S fuel ratios for Boosting 0 to max boost. 0 will have less smoke but i dont recall any smoke on mine unless im getting on her and most of the time in town i keep my boost below 10, i see 12,13 sometimes when im trying to get to 50 to kick it into 5TCL and on a hills. |

tunes from KEM to reduce smoke? Hardly. The KEM tunes I have smoke like a freight train!

hum I wonder with my elite 71mm turbo if i can set it on 5 now and not smoke as much. The aftermarket turbo should be able to clean it up pretty good. mite have to give it a shot if mileage and spool up is better

I believe mine is set on default (3) and she smokes pretty good. Even at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle when taking off from a stop she puts out a pretty noticeable amount. I'm going to reload the tune and play with the setting and see what I like the best.
