im new to the 6.4...i just ordered the spartan and exhaust with the intake....should i do the egr delete and if so why....i am a mechanic and can do it myself so labor isnt an issue....i dnt have a lot of money to be throwing at it right now as im broke due to buying the tuner...ive seen the kits with the block off and also with the wastegate....not sure about the way to go im new to doing this type of delete as ive never deleted the egr before so dont know which way to go or which one is worth the money....
I have an EGR cooler delete and CFM+ intake elbow. It works great. Gets rid of all the EGR components and the truck makes more power with the CFM+. I ordered all of that through Rudy's Diesel Performance. Great bunch of guys to deal with.
not trying to hi jack just joining in on the same question, i have a H&S mini maxx and i know it turns off the EGR should i do a delete as well? or am i fine with it being turned off by the mini maxx?
Eliminating the coolers and EGR valve is one of the best things you can do for your 6.4. Even though a tuner shuts the EGR valve off, it's not going to prevent possible EGR cooler or EGR valve failure. You can find EGR cooler delete's in the $200-300 range, and a CFM+ intake elbow is around $275.
Are you running a wastegate? I know this has been hashed out many times before but i still haven't gotten a definite answer on what should be done. I'm planning on tuning and deleting as soon as i can just looking for the right way to go. Its doubtful I'll ever see a track, and the truck doesn't get beat on regularly.
I also do not plan on studding the truck until its needed.
My kit does not have a wastegate. I don't think it's necessary with just a tune, intake, and exhaust. Guys who spray nitrous, use larger turbo's, etc. need a wastegate to prevent valvetrain damage. However, doing a wastegate can help in the efficiency department big time. Getting drive pressure and boost close to a 1:1 ratio really helps your truck run smoothly.
Thanks for the info! Are you studded? My main concern is the extra drive pressure from not having a waste gate blowing a gasket on some of the higher HP tunes.
so when i put the spartan on and exhaust until i get the egr delete in a couple weeks should i turn the egr off when i set up the spartan at the same time that i turn the dpf off or will it hurt anything....
There are 2 sets of tunes. One set is for EGR deletes. You will see the difference by how they are labeled. These are 250 and under tunes. The 275 and higher tunes are already made for an EGR delete.
If you plan on removing/disabling the EGR valve, there is no issue in running EGR delete tunes beforehand.
im new to my 08 6.4 dually just bought it yesterday an love it .. im looking for a tuner for my truck. i dont know which one to get an i cant do too much i stilll have a warranty on my truck... 08 strocker i am 2 1/2 hours from RUDY's do they do warranty work an service these trucks
Rudy's probably does do some service work, but no warranty work. That has to be done through Ford dealerships. Most of their work is extensive though. I would shoot a PM to Aaron at Rudy's to see what they can do for you. His username on here is "Rudy's diesel performance."
Hey I did my 2010 6.4 HD at 4000 miles 4 inch ss turbo back sct tunes complete egr cooler delete with a wastegate It has been a different truck I would do it all again today if I had another one I did have mine done and cab was removed it was 3300 bucks well worth every dime. I had a 6.0 blew cooler gaskets everything and ford only cut about 33 percent of bill to hell with that cooler I dont care whos truck it is in DO IT and DO IT COMPLETE!
If I were to keep the EGR on and just let the H&S tuner disable it then I would face a chance of still having it fail?
If it failed would it cause other problems or could I just delete it then?
The egr valves can still fail even when they are disabled. You can wait to delete until after it fails, but usually when the EGR fails, it is going to leave you sitting on the side of the road waiting for a tow as well as send coolant everywhere. If I were you I would do the delete before it fails vs after. I know its the next thing on my list.
