Replace the down pipe?

ok just wondering how important it is to buy an upgraded down pipe for my 08 6.4 or just use the stock one while upgrading the rest of the exhaust? I thought that fords stock 4 in was acceptable. any thoughts would be appreciated

I did my down pipe when I upgraded the exhaust. the stock one is 4" on the outside, but there's an inner pipe that is about 3" inside that. there was a pic on here a while back.
upgrading the downpipe is not totally necessary. the down side to replacing it is, you can't go back to stock unless you can lift the cab to replace it. most people have to cut the stock one to get it out. that means a possible voiding of the warrantee.

it will lower your EGT's a little. depends on your preferences.
