New guy with 6.4 looking for pointers
Hello all..I have an 08 F350 6.4 Crew Cab. I'm looking to improve the mileage as well as the power. I work out of the truck daily, pull a 34' camper and plow snow in the winter. I was thinking about the H&S Mini Max and the dpf/cat back delete. I dont want a race truck or smoke the tires off, just want to get more out of the motor. Any suggestions?

You will absolutely love the way the Mini Maxx performs. It is the best tuner on the market for the 6.4L in my opinion.

What about the transmisson issues? I have read that the H&S alters the shifting. Any truth to that?

Yes, they do, for the better. Your truck will shift much better with H&S tuning.

Have you considered the Spartan Phalanx? If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask. I respond to emails and PM's.

I have the mini maxx, 4" dp back AFE, and AFE stage 2 air intake. Lots of power, almost doubled my mileage. The stupid screen shows an average of 21.3 MPG but it is lieing to me. Hand calc 15 mostly stop and go, I can easily get 18 out on the road. Once you pull of that restrictive DPF you will be amazed. My truck used to run 20 LB. of boost at 60 mph. now I can run 75 and only be at 6 lbs of boost or so. You won't be dissapointed with this package. Stock I was only getting about 9MPG. So I am happy.

Thanks for the info Purdy..How much louder is your truck now? I do alot of plowing..don't want to piss off my customers at 2am..
Also does anyone know about the recall/upgrade ford is doing? I just got my letter...Are these upgrades compatible with the new programming? |

It is not loud inside the truck with the windows up, but if you have to spool the turbo at all when you plow (which I'm sure you do) you would probably want to have a muffler. But you still want to get rid of that DPF. I would go with a 4" down pipe back with muffler. If I put my foot in it, the truck is pretty loud now, Plus I get some black smoke.
As far as that recall, I think I got something in the mail about that a few months ago. I think they go into the computer and make it so you can read the coolant temps. I know my mini max does that for me already, so I didn't have that done. If you don't have a tuner at the moment, I would have it done. But if you do, I would check with the tuner company first, before having ford go in and mess something up. (Just what I would do)?? |

Drew, you might want to take a look at our Phalanx console.
Our 210HP Tow Performance tune is built specifically for towing large/heavy loads, with careful transmission tuning to match. All exhaust gas temperature, oil/coolant temperature, and transmission temperature safeguards are still in place for safe use. Torque converter lockup is also maximized to help put the extra power to the ground, without building excessive transmission head with the added horsepower in conjunction with the heavy loads. Fueling and timing is calibrated to milk as much economy out of the truck for towing purposes while still keeping cylinder pressures safe. As far as gauges, I think you'll also find that the DrewTech DashDAQ that our Phalanx console is built off of is unrivaled for gauges and monitoring purposes. If there's anything we can help with, just give us a call or shoot us an email. |
