My Review of RCD 525
So I took a trip down to the FL keys last Sunday, before I started I decided I'd load my 525 tune from RCD, (now when running the canned tune from SCT, the truck mybe got 15mpg). I immediately noticed a big power increase, and on my first leg (600miles), the lie-o-meter in the cluster saqid 16.8mpg when I stopped. Next morning I noticed that the rear passenger side bumper was jet black from the smoke. I didn't realize the smoke would be that bad. But found the perfect cleaner for the smoke. By the time I stopped on my second leg the dash meter was reading 18mpg about 500miles and filled up in the morning, didn't have to stop again and still had 1/4 tank. And I did notice myself dusting quite a few tailgaters, so I do know the smoke is thick. My last leg down to Key Largo, about 600miles from the top of FL to the bottom, (long @$$ drive!) I filled up in the morn, the dash gauge read 650 miles to empty, and about halfway down the mpg gauge read about 18.5, my hand calculated to about 17mpg around there. Anyways the power is awesome, at one point I did get up past 100, but I tell ya the truck starts to feel real unstable after 100, and for 9200lbs, thats pretty bad.
Overall the 525 tune feels pretty good, I like the mpg gains and the HP/torque; actually smoke out a duramax and cummins 2 nites ago, I came up on them, and they started revving up, and so I just layed into the throttle and covered the ram, they looked like they were gonna come after me, but they stayed back.
The only thing I noticed that concerned me a bit was the shifting, I hit a couple areas of trffic, stopngo to be specific. The trans didn't like that, it really shifted hard when just going 15-25mph, and she was puffing a lot as well. I kept my eye on the engine parameters but, that hard shifting does have me a little concerned. Thinking about possibly dropping it back down to the canned tune before heading back up, not sure though.
