Another water seperator ?

So I went o drain my water seperator for the first time since ive bought the truck. Come to find out the lever is broken off from the previous owner. My question is can I run the truck if I can find a way to get the lever in the open position and just plug the drain hole? Or does the lever close off the passage of fuel to the engine when its in the open position?

Mine did the same thing. Bought truck with 11000 miles and it had probably never been drained. the plastic lever snapped right off. The dealer covered under warranty and have not had a problem since. I shoot some lubricant at the lever. That is one part that should not be plastic.
