Terrible MPG with DPF delete?!

I just threw over $1,000 into my truck, hoping to boost my fuel economy from what I was getting with that filter. I have a full 4" downpipe-back exhaust kit, Airaid intake system, and SCT Livewire, tuned at the "Performance" program.

My question is, why did my fuel economy stay the exact same?? I was getting around 11 with the filter (mostly city driving), and I am still getting exactly that.

I have played around with the tunes, and I don't seem to get any better in Extreme, Tow, or Stock programs (all giving me around 11 as well). Highway, I have been seeing around 17-18, which i'm pleased with. Why on Earth is my city MPG so terrible?

I'll also note that the truck smokes a LOT more than I would expect from a Performance tune. It's not just a "puff" of smoke at the initial "pre-boost" acceleration. It's a steady stream of smoke as I moderately accelerate. Even in "stock" program, it smokes wayy more than I'd expect.

Any ideas?

Have you thought about going with custom tunes? Also, these trucks weigh a LOT. City driving is not very friendly in the fuel economy department no matter what you do.

Should I be happy with the 12 I'm getting in town and the 16-17 I'm getting on the highway on my completely stock truck with 3.55's and 17" wheels? What would I be seeing with a tune? I have 900 miles on it and it runs good and I either drive like a grandma or bat**** crazy.

Another question. I have sync and it's supposed to send feedback to ford about vehicle health. Will that be sending back data showing an aftermarket PCM flash?

the SCT programs only say their tunes will boost mpg by 1-2. so not seeing much of an increase in town isnt really surprising. like said above, these trucks are heavy so its hard to see a ton of improvement in town.

I'd suggest trying a custom tune out. The standard SCT tunes run decent but I don't believe they turn off the EGR. A custom tune from someone like DP Tuner or Innovative Diesel for that SCT should give you some results you'll be happier with.

I didn't realize that Jody had tunes for the 6.4 Jacob. That is interesting news.

We've installed his tunes in quite a few customers truck running the standard SCT stuff, they run pretty damn good, though about running it in my personal truck.

I don't think it's 550hp tuning, but for the average 6.4L owner with daily driving and towing needs, it seems to work great.
