DPF removal nightmare
Well finally got my minimaxx tuner, and ordered up a AFE DPF/CAT delete to round it all out. All I have to to say is wow was I surprised with what a nightmare it turned out to be. The getting all the junk out was easy enough, though I really wish I had some extra hands. Getting it all in was a whole different story. The afe pipes that I got with my kit did not fit at all. The front midpipe wants to hit the crossbrace, the back midpipe is not flared enough to fit the rear of the exhaust or the front midpipe. i tried for about 2 hours every trick I have in my book from bending out the flanges to a bfh. Then on top of that the exhaust hangers don't line up either. If the paperwork that came with it didn't say that it was for my truck I would swear I got the wrong parts.
Has anyone else had this issue with their afe pipes?? Am I doing something wrong trying to get these things in, I mean it's pretty straight foward so I can't see what I could do different. As of right now I am really disappointed with afe and the quality of the parts I got from them. Thankfully I went with the minimaxx so my truck is still driveable. Thanks for the help. |

that sucks man. i hate to hear that. i've never dealt with the afe exhaust so i dont really know how they are. but you could possibly consider taking it back...i bought the flo pro exhaust and it fit perfectly. it takes me a whole 30 minutes to put the full exhaust on.

If you are any where near Dallas Texas I have a delete pipe you can have if you come get it. I know it works but you might have to plug some holes for your application.

Thanks for the offer, I ended up taking it into a mom and pop exhaust shop by me to have it forced in, and I do mean forced. It took trimming off some pipe where it connect to the muffler section, lots of heat, and a 300lb dude with a pry bar. It's still closer to the cross member than I like, but doesn't seem to be rubbing, and I can't get any of the 3 exhaust hangers to fit, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with the massive weight reduction.
As far as the dpf tunes, it does have them, but it may just be my truck, but it didn't really care for them much, I ran them for 3 days before I got the dpf off, and my truck never seemed to shift right, and i did the relearn 3 times, and it still smoked a good bit which I'm thinking can't be real good for the dpf or cat. |
