Spartan trans question
Just have an annoying prob with my truck and its been doin it for a while. I'm running the 250 tune for a few thousand miles now and all of a sudden when i slow down between 10 and 30mph and go to hit the gas the trans is like in nuetral and it slams back into gear and its starting to bother me... Just curious if anyone has had this before

Common 5R110W issue. Add a half a court of tranny fluid. That should help.

How many quarts did you put in?

I've got it right on the full line hot but i think it was on about 6qts

The tranny takes 18 quarts.

Whoa whoa whoa...easy....
The trans will NOT take 18 quarts after a pan service. 18qts is the DRY capacity. Typically a pan service will see around 10 or so qts. 6 is not enough, but 18 is WAY too much for a pan service. Recheck your level again -- the stick can be misleading on these trucks. |

Whoops! I guess I should have said HOLDS 18 quarts.
![]() I thought that when you flush the fluid it takes 10, and when the pan gets dropped its more than that. I don't know for sure, just wondering.

I was having the same issue for a couple of months. As per the advice on this forum, I added one quart of fluid and no more slam. ...And the 2-3 shift seems better too (250 tune). Level was down a little; The added qt took it right to the top of the HOT area on the stick.
Try it... all the cool kids are doing it! |
