first oil change

About to do my first oil change. What brand and weight/viscosity can you guys recommend for a tuned truck. I ran Castrol Syntec religiously in my gassers for many many years but somewhat clueless about what to put in this diesel... (NOTE: its just for daily driving, occasional light towing. No racing...)

10-40 Rotella is what I us. Had the oil analyzed several times and there was a lot left in the oil after 5000 to 6000 miles.

I run Valvoline 5W40 full synthetic in my truck, never had a problem

Did you run the synthetic from the get go or did you "break in" the motor with Dino oil first and to what miles on the clock did you do that to before you switched over?

You askin me or Jeff? In my 03 Dodge gasser, I ran Synthetic from 3000k til I got rid of it at 100K. Ran perfect every mile... ...I miss that ol dodge sometimes. Mainly cuz it was paid off!!

Both....I have ran Synthetic in alot of my other truck but have always thought that you needed to wait til they had about 10,000 miles on the the motor first.......I had an 06 Dodge Gasser like it too!!

I put synthetic in both of my trucks right away. Maybe 3000-5000 miles on a F150 and my SD The first oil change. Never a problem.

I can't remember to be honest. I have had the truck for over 3 years now. It was changed from Motorcraft whatever (non synthetic) to Valvoline full synthetic 5w40 after the first oil change I believe.

You just using basic Valvioline synthetic, same stuff you use in gassers? or something specific for diesels? I was always under the impression that diesels used "special" oil.

yes you need specific oil. It must have a CJ-4 stamp on it somewhere.

I run the motorcraft 15w40 diesel oil. It costs the same as everything else, plus its ford recommended. Also there's no chance of any warranty issues from using another brand of oil.

make sure you use the motorcraft or racor oil filter. Do not run anything else. # FL-2016(Motorcraft) # PFL-2016(Racor)
