Smoke difference with or without Cat
Hi Everyone,
So as I prepare to purchase the Spartan for my truck I am wondering if you guys have noticed any discernable difference in smoke with the cat on verses off. I live in MA and my major concern is bellowing black smoke and the attention that I could bring to myself. What have you noticed in regard to smoke with the cat on verses off? If the difference is negligable I just assume remove it however if it helps keep a low profile a bit.. well you see where I'm going. Any experience with this would be appreciated. Talk to you later. Your going to see less smoke on the lower tunes, but not a huge difference with the higher tunes.

You get black smoke even on the lowest tunes with the cat on or off with the SCT. With tow tune, turn egr off and no more smoke. Amazing

Thanks for the feedback. Anybody have any first hand experiences being stopped due to smoke?

I have heard of it happening, but I have never seen proof. I think California is starting to crack down hard, but that is the only place I have heard anything bad.

While looking at the Black Maxx and the Spartan one of the advertised points of the Black Maxx was the ability to shut the EGR off. Under WOT the EGR should shut off by default, at least in the spark ignition world... So I would be curious as to whether that was the case here and that affect on smoke.
I believe I saw in a posting at one point somebody asking about noise which was related to the EGR cycleing in park so that it did not become stuck while running the Spartan. Is the Spartan shutting off the EGR under regular conditions or at least with certain tunes? |

The only tunes that have the EGR shut off completely are the 275, 310, and 350. The 210, 210 TP, and 250 tunes cycle it at idle. The 175 and under tunes cycle it constantly just like it does stock.
