Where to start. Upgrade ideas..
Well Hello all,
This is my first diesel and my experience in upgrades has all been on gas motors cars and trucks alike. My truck is a work truck, I am in the auto hauling business. I have an 08 F550 obviously the 6.4 its 2wd and a dually. I would like to make more power while improving fuel mileage for obvious business reasons. Where do I start or what is the best way to make these things happen? ![]() My thoughts were the obvious intake and exhaust routes is this best or do you all suggest anything different, and in what order should i do this all. Thanks for the help. Kory. |

Unfortunately, you're never going to really see any note worthy gains in MPG's unless you are willing to do a cat/dpf delete. The good news is, once you get to that point your options on tuning are endless.

I recommend the Spartan tuner, 4" downpipe back exhaust, and an AFE or S&B intake. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the tuner.

I see that the spartan tuner seems to be the one that most on here either have and/or highly reccomend. How hard is the downpipe back exhaust to do? Intake is probably a simple job as most cars/trucks are.
Questions on the tuner: price: can i do it myself: gains: In regards to cat and dpf delete- what is involved in this and what gains would i see? DPF is what? like i said im new to diesel and this engine itself. Thanks. Also, just read the cobbs vs. shone vs. rudy's 20+ page post.. guessing i will be ordering said parts from Rudy's. good idea? |

I can tell you that simple hand tools can install your pipe, the tuner was simple plug and play with mine....Spartan, everyone there that I have talked with has been great with questions, support, explaining things. I was dyed in the wool cummings fan until my first 6.4 and now have 2 of em, both Spartanized! Fuel numbers with my wife`s is a little better than mine, her`s is 2010 F350 running 3.55 SRW. Last trip to Cali she averaged just over 20 MPG for the trip......She is little but has a heavy foot!! I wish Rudy`s was closer to us if I have a problem ever would like them to work on it, but for now just have to get my parts from them, getting ready to get my down pipe and CTC pipe from them, so yea I think with whatever you go with I would definatly call them they won`t steer you wrong. Good Luck!!

1. Spartan tuner is $1249.00
2. Yes, it is a plug and play tuner so it can be done yourself 3. Out of the box you get all of the tunes up to the 250 tune (9 DPF on tunes, 4 DPF delete tunes). There are also 275, 310, and 350 tunes available as well if your looking to make the truck FAST. The 250 tune will get you about 500-515 horsepower at the rear wheels. |
