Soon to be Spartan owner! Questions though
Hey guys, I'm planning on buying a used Spartan DD from a guy and have a few questions. Sorry if they've been asked and answered before. He is the original owner and had put his truck back to stock. I know I'll have to spend the 350.00 to have the VIN unlocked. Question is, he says it only has 4 tunes on it and has not been upgraded to the stradegy tuner. What is "stradegy" tuner for one? When I get my liscense for it, will it have all 12 of the tunes that come on them now?
Thanks for the help, and anything else I should know also. |

If the first truck was returned to stock(unlocking the tuner), then yes it just a matter of getting the update to turn it into strategy flash which would include all the tunes DPF on and DPF off thru 250 hp. Strategy flash means just that it can tune any strategy truck right out of the box without having to wait for custom tunes being written(like in the past 24-48 hr wait times) NOTE***(except for manual trans models). If the first truck was NOT returned to stock then you need a addition lic. at $699 not just new tunes at the $350. You will need to send a email including tuner number, mail, email, old customers name, etc. to tech@spartandieseltech.com to get things started.

Powerstroker67, thanks for the info. One other question. He is including a DPF delete pipe. Do I need a Cat delete pipe also, and who all sales them? Also, will a stock intake handle up to the 250 tune?

You do not need a CAT Delete pipe, but I would certainly recommend deleting the CAT as well. There are many benefits to removing both and none for keeping the CAT other than it is cheaper. We can help you out with a package deal with either Spartan tuner with DPF only Delete or DPF/CAT Delete. Stock intake will handle up to the 210 tune. If you want to run the 250, you will either need a high flow drop in air filter or a complete aftermarket intake system. Let us know if we can help.

I have an AFE drop in filter and run the 250, listen to Aaron and you will be GTG!

Thanks guys! One last question. Until I get the VIN unlocked for my truck, can you still use the DasDaq at all? At least for monitoring? Or is it disabled altogether?

you can still monitor everything. That alone makes it worth it IMO. Before switching everything over. Its a good idea to run around and make a note of oil tranny coolant and EGT temp's. It will help if any issues arise so you have a control to compare to.

Yes, you can use it to monitor your gauges. What you really need to do is select exit form the Gauge screen. Next go to Tuning, I Accept, then to Status. If it displays license with a vin number beside it then it indicates that it's still locked to the other truck. This could mean one of two different things, vehicle was not returned to stock, or has been issued a stock recovery file. We'll be able to tell what's going on. Call if you need help or have any other questions. 828-692-9967

They anwsered every question, called me back, anwsered emails, and I can`t imagine going with anything else for my trucks. You will be happy once you have it installed.
