Is it worth the $$$??
So I want to get some opinions on upgrades and their actual worth to the daily performance of the truck. I know to some money is not a big issue but to others things are nip and tuck. Let's assume you just average Joe makig 50-60k and u use the truck as a DD and a tow vehicle and that's all
which thing are worth their cost? Anyone else please feel free to add other itmes as well. Tuner/delete pipe/ intake- $1000-$1500 full exhaust- $400 down pipe- $250 tcm- $600 traction bars- $600 egr delete- $2000?? Someone correct me if I'm wrong Diesel additive- $40 a bottle Bypass filter- $600? Please add others if I missed any are remember, average joe where 500-600 bucks will acually make a difference. |

That about sums it up... Somebodys done their homework. Exhaust and programmer with a light foot will give you just about all you need. You want quick 1/4 mile times everything else on you're list.

calebj06 I use mine as a daily driver and tow vehichle, just put a Spartan w/275 & 300 tunes, FloPro 4" Dp back exhaust, and S&B CAI, along with this I also run the Opti Lube XPD fuel addative and oil fortifier. The truck is amazing with the Spartan installed and you can't beat the mpg's, this thing will pay for itself in no time if you keep your foot out of it and trust me thats a BIG IF LOL. As for the Opti Lube, I have noticed a very minimal amount of added mpgs but it has removed alot of knock from the engine and with all the crappy fuel out there today it can't hurt to add a little of the protective properties they refine out back. As far as the other things on your list, I can't see paying the extra money if you aren't planning on taking to the track. Just my $.02!

My feelings are about the same. Tuner delete and intake deffinatly worth it. Exhaust...maybe if u just want the sound (I remember those days). I have the optilube as well and don't see ant difference.
The ones I am rally questioning are the downpipe and the traction bars. Not sure that either really make a dif on a dd stock heigth vehicle. |

The Down pipe and exhaust is definitely worth it on any diesel because it will open up the exhaust and get some more power and MPGs. Not to mention lower EGTs and drive pressure to an extent.

If its a dd i guess i wouldnt worry about traction bars or down pipe. Mine is not even a dd i try as much as i can because I love the truck with the tuner exhaust etc. I couldnt imagine having to go back to a stock truck. you wouldnt regret it.

if you aren't running a tune higher than the 275 you could probably get away w/out the egr delete to save some money. If you are running the big tunes i'd suggest head studs and new gaskets too while the cab is off.

...on the studs and gasket

Spartan tune
Intake DPF/Cat delete pipe IMO all you need for daily driving and low 13 sec to high 12 second 1/4 mile times and dependable. I would add the filter back exhaust for looks personally.....and traction bars..to ward off axle wrap. |
