Safe EGTs?

How hot can you go on these motors reliably? H&S has the defueling set at 1450, but how long can it sustain that? If I have the motor loaded, how long can I safely run EGTS above 1000? 1200? 1400?. I have had lots of diesels, this is the first one I have modded. I don't tow often, but occasionally do and I don't want to melt any pistons.

Me too. I can hit the 1400's if I'm playin and have it nailed till about 100. But it's only for maybe 5-10 sec. I think I would worry at 1100-1200 sustained pullin.

I just rode with a buddy of mine in his lifted 08 while pulling about 7-8000 lbs. He is bone stock besides the lift. It has 28,000 miles on it.

He was running it pretty hard.. 70-80mph all the time with quite a few hills(The alaska hwy).

The egts ran consistantly at about 1200. A couple of times on long pulls it worked its way up to about 1350 or so. I was amazed at how much time it was actually above or at 1200 degrees.

I don't think a guy is pushing it too much by being around 1400.

His coolant temp was also up to 224 and oil temp got up to 227 on a real long pull but the stock engine temp guage never moved... what a pos!

I am actually starting to belive that it is better for these trucks to be spartanized!! Also, the boost was rarely below 20psi.

I guess that is what I am asking. If you pull a trailer up a long grade, when should you give it less gas to try to cool it down?
