Snow Water Meth kit
Is anybody running a water methanol kit on their 6.4? I am considering getting one (mainly for the lowering of egt's) and was wondering if they are worth the price. How much do they actually drop the egt's and what kind of mileage gains do you actually get? Thanks in advance for feedback.

There are a few people that run it, but I am personally not a big fan of it. It seems that if you only run water, you can definitely decrease EGT's, but running a mix of meth in it just can't be good for your pistons, etc. From what I understand, the meth will increase timing, which can lead to too much timing, which can be bad for the internals of your motor.

Do you recommend any other mods that could help lower egt's? Thanks for the feedback!

Can you PM me a price for those?

The meth doesnt increase timing. It allows you to add more timing to a tune. BUT if its tuned for it and you run out its bad news.

I just know that River City Diesel reported valve stem wear when running meth on a 6.4L. Going by that, I would not run it.

You can also get an aftermarket intercooler.

Any time you add fuel, you alter the timing. Bigger injectors, meth, n2o, all will alter your timing. If you are already messing with your timing via a program, increasing your RP(alters timing) and put drugs on top of it, you could have a meltdown in the works if you do not know what you are doing. It can be done but has to be thought out.
The best thing to do is run the kit with straight water. It will cool as much as 200* and will wash the internals of any carbon build up. Disclaimer: when talking about fuel altering timeing we are talking about ignition point BTDC, and not injection timing. |
