Confusion between Tuners!!!
Hi
I have taken the plunge to buy an 08 F350 with about 54,000kms(30K Miles) on it. Getting rid of my DMAX. I want to get rid of the DPF right away and get it tuned up. The three main tuners, SCT, Blackmax and Spartan all sound great but I am wondering which one will work the best for me. There is so much info on here that it is confusing!!! My main objective for the tuner is to provide better fuel economy and drivability. I will only use the truck for towing about 20% of the time. I am not really into worrying about popping the heads off with a 300hp tune. I don't drag race all that much. Which tuner offers the least amount of detectability by Ford? Which tuner offers the best fuel economy? Do all the tuners delete/turn off the egr? Is it worthwhile to remove the CAT as well? Are there any other tuners worth looking at? Thanks in advance. |

I would have to say H&S Black Maxx. I've had this tuner for two months now and could'nt be happier. The change on the fly are awsome and the tranny tuning is spot on IMO. I'm running their new tuning now and it made a huge difference on my truck. With their old tuning in the HOT setting I laid down 531/1116tq and the new HOT DAMN is tronger than that. H&S has the best customer service HANDS DOWN! The Spartan is a nice tuner also but I think it's pretty silly you have to pay for the higher tunes. Also it seems that the gaskets are starting to let go with the Spartan.(Do a search)I want flood you with PM's trying to get you to buy a Black Maxx like some do on here with Spartan just shoot me a PM if you have any questions about the H&S. I am going to say SCT because no one else said it.
SCT and Spartan have good custom tunes. SCT has a few more user adjustable things like EGR and DPF delete along with DPF on tunes. The SCT livewire sucks for gauge monitoring, unless you go with the TSX. Spartan excels with the DASH DAQ in that department. The H&S alows you to change on the fly but I suspect that allows it to be more detectable but am unsure. Any tuner is detectable if you abuse it though. The H&S also allows you to not have to reinstall the sensors in the exhaust, this is a bonus due to that the pressure nipple and third temperature sensor have a tendency to break when trying to remove.

All 3 tuners are great! You just gotta do a little research and ask some specifics on each tuner. I'll be on the rest of the night, so feel free to PM me with any questions.

I myself am looking at the H&S minimaxx tuner. One it has all the same features as the Blackmaxx minus custom tuning to fuel pressure, timing etc. and for the price it's a great deal. spartan has a very strong fan group on here and is a great tuner as well.

Basically all tuners have good points leading you to them, just read thru the forums and decide for yourself which one suits your needs. If you just want some better mileage without spending alot, I would go with the SCT, If you want the best for your truck with a good monitor, I would go with the Spartan. The choice is up to you, but let us know if we can help.
