RCD TUNE UPDATES
Hey Guys,
I have been running RCD's 485 since July and loved the power and shifting. In December I finally recieved the update for my tune. It is version 6 from what I can tell. The shifting on the update is phenominal. Firm and precise. No searching, no over revving like what would occure the odd time with the previous tune. They hit this one bang on. However, I noticed a few differences and was wondering if anybody else running this tune also noticed this. Fuel MPG gage on the truck is way out to lunch now. Before 16.5mpg on the gage worked out to about 18mpg hand calc. Now 17mpg on the guage is more like 15 if i am lucky and it will read 22mpg if i rested it on level highway at cruising speeds yet i know its not anywhere near that. The boost seems to build a lot quicker but the power doesn't seem to be there. If I roll into it at 100 boost will go up over 40 but it doesn't pull as hard as the old tune. There seems to be a lot more drone in the cab at 100-110 which wasn't there with the old tune. Seems like the motor is working harder. I got beat by a duracrap playing around the other day. I had it matted. I broke loose in 2w4 and suspect that traction control kicked in which is why I lost...But it was closer than i expected. Even tuned I was told I should still be able to take most truck on the street no problem. I am convinced maybe I got the 450 tune. I figured originally it was just the tranny shifting was that much better hiding the power but even the ex commented that something was wrong with the truck and she didnt know i had gotten a new tune. Hum interesting, I never got a 485 updated tune.

When did you purchase your tune? Like I mentioned, when I bought my 485 in July Brad told me that they were working on buttoning up the 585 at that time and that there would be an updated 485 when that was complete. I was on them every couple months because I wanted the new tune with the new tables and thats why I got an update.
Its possible that yours was the most current tune when you purchased your tune. |

Well I loaded up my original tune again and there is definately a difference between the tunes. My original tune has more smoke and noticeably more power too however the shifts are smoother and not "performance" like
The new tune is down on power but the shifts are firm and crisp. In addition there is a lot more drone like the motor is working harder even when unloaded at cruising at 62. This past weekend I pulled a light sled trailer with 2 sleds on the back and one in my box and i was boosting at 20 lbs at 62mph. There was a wind but this is excessive. I live in flatland country and when I hit 1 long hill i was boosting overf 40lbs. Motor and exhaust sounded deadly but I was worried about burning up without monitoring the exhaust temps. I guess it wasn't all in my head. Time to talk to the boys at RCD and find out whats going on. on edit: Still getting great service from these boys. 1 Ring and I was talking to someone there. They think that I may have gotten the wrong tune. BUT...they are looking into it AND they are working on another round of revisions to make a great tune even better!!! Maybe the guys at RCD could chime in. I bought the same tune in December and I never received an update either!

You probably have the more current version then. My 485 is still from back in July.
