Turbo Bark

Is anyone noticing any turbo bark on there 250 spartan tune? I notice it around 2000 rpms when I let off the throttle. It is only during mild driving.

When you let off the throttle, you hear a woop woop woop. My 04 LB7 Duramax would do it if I was powerbraking and let off the throttle real fast. The duramax was loud. The powerstroke bark is real faint, but it's definatly there. Turbo bark is caused when the flow of air goes the wrong way. It puts the shaft in a bind and could break it.

Turbo bark is the reason we are installing BOV's on alot of 6.4's.

if the "Surge" was an issue then ford would have put a BOV on these trucks stock. to my understanding, its not an issue on our trucks. Mine does it all the time. I've got a turbo 4cyl that i removed the BOV on because its an auto and it surges all the time as well. Yes it could cause the shaft in the turbo to break, but its pretty rare.

You only really need a BOV on stick car/truck. Even then on these trucks they don't surge enough to cause a problem.

yeah, thats compressor surge. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're doing it constantly. Mine might do it when i'm off-road or breaking through snow, but normal driving I never hear it.

Compressor surge over time can cause damage to the turbo's on a 6.4. Excessive surge will cause damage, whether its a stick or an auto.

Our '08 only does it when it's "Cleaning Exhaust Filter".. It does it pretty bad.. Anyone know why it does it more while cleaning rather than the usual whooshing sound? It also has an aftermarket intake...
