See how long it will take getting the improved mpg for the spartan or sct etc to pay for itself.

You change the Price per Gallon (Currently @ $2.99) and if you want the Base MPG and the Enhanced MPG fields.

The way I came up with the formula was:
D = Price per gallon
E = Base MPG
F = Enhanced MPG
A = Miles driven
2000 = cost of spartan equipment (I was buying the 2,000 package).

We want to solve for A but I started out with the formula:

Miles Driven * (cost per mile Base - cost per mile enhanced) = 2000
Note: I had to remind myself cost per mile base is higher than cost per mile enhanced

A * ((D/E)-(D/F) = 2000

Solving for A leaves us with:
A = 2000/((D/E)-(D/F))

I chose the variable names to go with the attached spreadsheet.

Used your calculator and my Payoff miles will be 31500 miles, before Spartan MPG 13.5 and after average is 18.9

You forgot to factor in that you can turn around and sell the spartan once you are done with the truck and recuperate some of the costs there.
