What are the major fail points in these trucks or has that been found yet this truck will not stay even close to stock. are there head gasket issues what is the bottom end good for when do i need to consider billet rods and changing pistons. and what is the rpm limit on these trucks with the spartan programmers.

thanks for all of the info so far guys keep it coming.

Danny,

Don't buy a 6.4, get the 6.7 liter 2010!

HOWEVER, as everyone else has stated, these are INSAINLY fast with just a hand full of bolt-ons......

I'm not really sure why people keep saying buy a 6.7 when no one knows if it is a good engine or not. The cab needs to come off for nearly every hard part to be put on for a 6.4. That is the major downfall. rods and pistions havent became an issue yet. If you have the money to spend on it or have a cab lift, i'd do it. These trucks are making great power with just the minor stuff. If you want a new truck, get it.

Why to not buy a ford possibly

I agrre with the previous interior and potential performance comments but buyer beware of Ford's (and apparently their dealer's) policy to take a hard warranty defense stand when we have modified the vehicle. I changed the air cleaner and put a DPF back Banks Monster exhaust on and when my engine threw a code after 3000 miles a dealer charged me $109.00 to read the code and tell me that I had voided my warranty. I now have a Banks intercooler, six gun tuner and new IQ controller sitting on my garage floor wondering how to proceed or not to proceed. If my warranty is toast I thought I would delete the DPF but then Banks tells me not to as 2010 EPA rules mandate emission testing and states will lose federal highway funding if the testing is not established. They are pinning us down with these newer vehicles and the load of computerized crap they put into them..

Just wondering, after you install all of this are you gonna still honestly ask ford to honor any warranty issues? You install that banks tuner and I guarantee you can kiss your warranty goodbye. I don't blame ford for charging you $109 IF your exhaust or intake threw the code. They don't work for free and should only warranty the products they sell. If they did business like that my taxes would be bailing them outa debt like its being used for gm and crysler.

100% true! Why should Ford have to pay because you altered the truck from the way it was designed to run. If you were a ford dealership would you want to warrenty some Joe blows truck because he modded it with HIGH PERFORMANCE mods? Yea, doubt it. Lick your calf over buddy.

Anyways back to the subject, I had a 06 cummins, Smarty stacked with edge, intake, exhaust, Air Dog 150, and a South Bend dual disk clutch, With both tuners all the way up, 170hp and 125hp I know my stock ford would deff give it a run for its money, if not be just as fast. My dodge would run a 8.8 in the 8th mile. I have yet to run my stock ford but i bet it would be close. Fords have the nicest interior of any truck you can buy, with a tough body that will take a beating. Everything is made a little stronger on a Ford compared to my Dodge imo. I think you will be very pleased with one as i will only own a Ford from this day on as my daily driver. Just remember if you mod it no dealer of any brand will warrenty it if you take it in with the mods still on!

You guys facking kill me Theres no way your old dodge would keep up with a tuned 6.4 with spartan /intake and exhaust. The intake and exhaust should be a non issue considering they both aid in fuel economy and overall drive ability As far as having an after market tuner ford should be thanking spartan for making the 6.4 the best diesel engine EEVVVVVVVEEEEEERR I ve driven everything under the sun and nothing compares to my F450 6.4 litre beaST
