310 + 57 psi = Truck covered in coolant
Well, I pulled a no-no last night on the way home from the race track. I was pulling my loaded race trailer, which is only 8000 lbs, up a 1 mile long 7% grade. I was monitoring the DD and everything was looking good. About 48 psi at that point. I leaned on it a little harder, still not even past 1/2 throttle, and boost quickly climbed to 56 then hit 57 for a split second.
I got out of the throttle and got back down to the mid 40's right away.Upon arivial at my shop I went to get out of the truck and slipped on my fold out step. At that point I was in a hurry to unload everything and get home so I didn't think much of it, just figured I hit some water on the way to the shop. It was on my way home when I was fueling up under the lights of the fuel station that I realized that the side of my bed was wet. Walked to the other side of the truck and its dry. Found a drip under the truck and sure enough, tastes like coolant! ![]() So, obviously no more towing or possibly even running the 310 until head studs are installed. What I want to know is how many of you guys have pressurized the cooling system before and not installed new gaskets? Anyone do something like this and install HS after wards? Did it work or not? Thanks for any info guys. I also wanted to post just to share my experience and to hopefully prevent any of you from doing this same thing. It only took a few second blip of the throttle and now I've got a major headache. So, my public service announcement for the day is this; Do not mess around with the 310 tune and any weight behind your truck!

mine has been doing this for awhile, it doesnt matter if the truck is tuned or not. After I got the truck after ford had to put a new crank in it the truck was puking. Ford told me to keep driving, since it wasnt doing it all the time. So i tuned it and it went away on the 250 tune but would come back with stock tunning and now it seems to do it more and more running the 275 or 310. And if at stock it does now more too.

Once a Puker, always a puker
Puked mine with the 310 (as soon as I loaded it) and I put in Elites studs one at a time, without the gasket. She is still puking, just as easy. Me and powerstroker67 are trying to consider every other point of failure on these trucks prior to pulling the cab and doing the gaskets but it is looking more and more like the gaskets have to be done. AED F250 What Job number is your truck ?? |
