exhaust hiss

i finished my install on a 5" downpipe back system. no dpf, no cat, and no muffler. i love the note , tone and throat of the sound. not outrageously loud. just a good solid note and a good loud crack of power when over 2700 rpm. but the air hiss when its not throaty, or on idle or in the under 1700 rpm range is driving me nuts.

what muffler will remove the hiss but leave the note and fit a 5" SS exhaust. looking for suggestions and maybe some videos and sound files of members exhausts and what they think is a good sounding combination.

I would check your local tractor, construction equipment or heavy duty truck store and check on a Donaldson muffler.. That or order an aero muffler off of most any performance diesel website.. If it were me I'd choose the aero muffler.. They're a proven product to offer great sound and improved performance

looked at the aero and it looks like a real quality part. so i just purchased a 5050 off of ebay. i like this one bc it doesn't have the resonator on it just the free flow muffler. I'm going to install with clamps before welding it in. just to make sure i like the note. if i dint I'll get the resonator one and install it. thought the donaldson may dampen too much of the note

thanks

It doesn't really matter what you do to your exhaust on a 08+ pickup. It will still sound like a hair dryer. I have a 4" dp back exhaust, and it does nothing to make a "throatier" sound. I like that. When I have nearly 600hp, I don't need to draw any more attention to my self than necessary. If it is any consolation, it sounds more like a v-8 when you really get on it. You can't hear it from the cab, but apparently from what my brother says, it makes a big noise when I take off. It never sounds like any thing at all from the cab. Even if you have some one rev it up in park, it won't do anything. It needs to have a load on it to make it sound throaty. Get some one else to drive the truck (that you trust), and see what it sounds like from the outside.

The AERO has diminished my dryer sound to almost none

Aero is the way to go.. I doubt you need a resonator.. Remember.. Your exhaust is running through two turbos which eliminates a lot of noise and drone

i noticed after giving the noise some more attention today (rigged up a cone to ease the flow coming out of the stainless 6" tip. thought i might be picking up some wind whistle on the rolled end on it.. NO FIX HERE. its defiantly coming from the engine) but the noise cycles on and off on idle. thinking this is either the egr or the vvt.
