Fuel system thoughts

Heres another one for you guys. I was thinking of making my own fuel system with my FASS 150/150. Here are my thoughts. I will completely bypass the fuel cooler and fuel bowl on top of the motor as well as the frame rail pump/filter. Run blue fuel line from the tank to the FASS. From the FASS run a braided -6 line to the HPFP feed. I will utilize the stock HPFP feeds to the heads. From the return side of the heads run a -4 line from each head and Y them together. From that Y I will continue to use a single -4 line that will meet up with another Y fitting. The other line that will meet up to the Y will be a -4 line from the HPFP return. I will run a -6 or -4 line from that Y back to the tank. Do I need to use a regulator on the return side? what about the feed side? I didnt think I would need one on the feed side due to an internal regulator in the HPFP. Also do you think I should turn my FASS down to 10 or 12 psi or keep it at the 40 or 45 that it is? Let me here your thoughts. Ryan

i think the truck needs the filter on top of the motor. We put a FASS on mayo's truck and we took the filter out and the truck wouldnt run. It may be that if you leave the filter in and just bypass it might still run.

also the fass that they made for the 6.4 has outlet pressure of about 5-6 psi

The fuel system on a 6.4 is pretty complicated. I think that the fuel cooler and the various filters are an integral part of the fuel system. Personally, I don't think there is much to be gained by monkeying with the stock fuel system. The thing only needs 5-6psi to begin with. People are not having any problems with the low pressure side that I am aware of. Even those running the Spartan beta tune. There is little to be gained, but so much to be lost if eff up the HP fuel system.

just my $0.02

The reason the truck wouldnt start with the filter out is because there is a piece that needs to be depressed inside the housing for it to flow fuel. If its bypassed and the fuel is run directly to the HPFP then it should be fine. Ok. I have a spring from FASS for the cummins common rail setup to drop it down to around 10.
I dont think the fuel system is complicated at all. They have the cooler in place because they are returning fuel directly from the heads back to the filter housing to get used again, therefore cooling it. Not sure why it needs to be cooled though? Emissions? Some people are having problems with the stock fuel system to the HPFP. The tuning has gotten better therefore reducing the drop in pressure but it is still there. I already have the 310 beta but like I just said the tuning is way better and they have figured a way to work around it. I am going bigger with the HPFP and injectors so I need to take care of it.
