Towing on the Spartan 210

I logged some miles on my newly tuned/deleted truck this past week. I drove from Ft Lauderdale to Daytona and Back on the 210 tune. As most of you probably know Florida is super flat so there is no hills to speak of except for bridges. I pulled my 24' Enclosed trailer and 70 Chevelle which was displayed in the Dub Booth at the Coke Zero 400 all weekend. The weather was hot during the trip, right around 100 with very high humidity.

The truck pulled great and the tune was very manageable. The trailer loaded with the car weighs in at around 9000lbs. Cruising at 75-80 I never saw EGTs go higher than 800 degrees unless I was passing someone. Coolant temps were aroudn 200 and the tranny was always 20-25 degrees less than the coolant. Everything worked out very well and I was very pleased. My trip computer showed me getting aroudn 11.8mpg but im not sure how accurate that was.

Now that im back home and not pulling I have loaded the 275. Its scary how much extra power it has even over the 210. I am beating on it pretty good hoping the shifts will learn and be a little more subtle.

Good info. I'm looking at picking up an 11k lb toyhauler, and this gives me some rough estimates.

I wouldnt hesitate to pull on the 210 with even more of a load than what I had. Just keep an eye on the gauges and you should be ok. The highest EGT i saw was about 100 when I hammered on it to pass a few cars then as soon as its locked back up the egt drops right down to 800 again.

I just got back from hauling my 10k camper 280 miles to the beach. Going down i towed with the 275 and got 9.4 mpg LOM showed 12.5 mpg EGTs were between 750-950, oil and coolant around 205 ambient was 94.

On the way back i pulled with the 210 and got 8.4 MPG LOM showed 10.5 temps were about the same as the 275.

Love pulling with the 275 just have to start off nice and easy until it gets into 3rd gear and the shifting is softer.

I think next time I go on a similar or short trip with the car and trailer I will try the 275. Your right though, those first two shifts are nasty, youd really have to feather it to third gear.

I wouldn't hesitate to let my buddy pull 10k+ with the 210. It defuels so unless you're going out of your way to be an idiot, it should be safe.
