There is no set weight for the sleds, its different almost every time. I didn't realize we were talking about spartan tuned 6.4s here. I'd still go in low the first time around. You can always restart if you stop before the 75 foot mark if you don't like the way its going.

The tractor thing would help give you at least a small idea of how it'll do, but like nick said, tractor brakes and a sled are very different.

build some boost first but dont let the tires spin. stay on the brake and easing into the throttle until he starts spinning and then let of the brake and mash it, and you will be dragging him anywhere.

wow...

4lo .... start in 2nd ....build some boost...leave the line..once at wide open throttle maually shift to 3rd..... as long as rpm's stay high, stay in 3rd... and if at the end of the track the rpm drop significantly, drop back to 2nd... done deal. tire pressure should be messed with as well. i asked this same question a while back, that is what i was told..i got 4th out of 21 in the modified class... im not saying its the answer, but it worked for me, considering i was the only one not hanging weight in the top 10. here's how it worked.

Most of the people i asked said 4 low and 3 rd gear and keep it there...i used 4 low and 2nd gear and was real high in the rpms and spun out so i would say 3rd as well....as far as egts their gonna get hot but not long enough to hurt anything

Have you ever tried high? I guess strategy depends on region cause all the trucks around here that have higher power number let her rip in high. middle of the track and they are hauling azz with the sled. that momentum is a big part at the last 1/4 of the track.

I guess why run low 3rd, when you can run high 2nd/3rd and have more control over the rpms. I doubt i low 3rd whines out that you will have enough to hit drive for low 4th.
