Angry Anybody put the external tranny filter on?

I have several 08 F450's and a couple of 09's. The oldest 2 08's that were built in 07 have an external transmission filter that sits between the oil pan and the transmission. But the newer ones don't have any exernal filter, just the one in the pan. I checked with the dealer and they sell a kit that splices into the cooler line and gives you an external filter. Anybody put this thing on yet and if so how much trouble??

I don't have the external filter either. I did not know they had an external kit. Looking forward to hearing what answers you get, and if it is worth it.

I put a suncoast external oil filter on mine and I hink it was a good investment, here's the thread I started with pics.

As I understand from this and other sites, the '08 job 1's had the external filter. The job 2's and 3's had an improved internal pan filter that negated the need for the external jobby. As I remember, only 10% of the fluid went through the external (and to the cooler), while 100% goes through the pan type.

Because you don't have the external, I'm guessing you have the improved in-pan type filter.

Follow the manual for maintenance and it should be fine.
