life expectancy of 4wd 6.4 trans???

Been looking at an 08 lifted ccsb with 116k on it. Unsure of how its been used but doesnt appear to have ever had a fifth wheel hitch put in. Ok with the engine at this mileage just wasnt sure about the tranny. It has a custom SCT tune. New to the diesel world but from what ive researched the 6.4 is decent engine

just hit 141k in my truck ....im sure its had its fair share of heavy horse trailer cause it has a hide-a-ball and i towed all my belongings ....a car and my crap around 7k lbs with a H&S hot damn 300 tune ...they hold up fine lol

as far as I hear they are very well built and durable, a huge improvement on any older tranny to include the allison

Appreciate the replies guys, going to check out the truck in the morning, Pics on the way if i decide to pick it up. Hopefully all checks out. Will be my first diesel. Im an auto technician, but have only changed oil on a diesel Been exclusively a gas tech.. So it ll be a learing process. Cant wait

I know the allison carries name recognition, but I have never been impressed with them behind the duramaxes

My 6.4 tranny took a dump on me the week i got it at only 57k miles, but i think i just "got the only bad apple from that tree" because I hear alls orts of great things about them on here. I installed my mods, and programmer, and went for a test drive.... had it at WOT for two runs on the 250 tune, and it was toast after that. Guys on here run the 300 tune all day long, and beat on it at the drag strip without any trouble, so I would say they are strong for the most part. Well went and looked at the truck, loved it. Had a bad steering gearbox with a ton of play. Couldnt justify dropping 30k on something that id have to come home and throw a gearbox on. Told him fix that and im in. Said he d look into it and call me.

No word, figure he's figuring I'll start sweating it out and call him. Not gonna happen though. If he wants my 30k he can buy a $300 gearbox and install it. If not he can sit on for another 6 months.

wow 30k is a lot of dough for a truck with over 100k, especially when you consider you could buy a 6.0L a couple years older for about half that. Set of head studs and egr delete & tuner and its prolly very similar truck overall.
