tow/haul switch not working

i recently bought a 2008 6.4L. i noticed that the tow/haul light does not come on when i hit the button. i have read that the shift lever is probably the culprit, but i dont want to break anything trying to replace it. could someone tell me if this is the problem or any other ideas of how to fix it. and if it is the problem how to remove and replace.

OK i did a little more investigation, it seems to be a chaffed wire because i can get it into tow/haul if i pull the shift lever back. how do i take the steering column apart to trace the wires. i took the three bolts out of the bottom of the column, but was not sure if it just pulls apart (top/bottom) or is there another bolt or something.

Just give it a yank top or bottom and they will come apart in the middle in 2.

Mine quit a while ago. Was wondering the same thing. Or where can I find a schematic to find a wire to put a regular switch on?
