TC Issue? Tranny "shutters" on TC lock.
I have been battling with my truck for months now, trying to figure out why my mileage isn't what I expected it to be.
Quick info: DPF is gone, 4" downpipe back, Airaid intake, SCT Livewire (using Performance tune), EGR delete plates. Issue 1: Fuel Economy I'm getting around 11mpg around town (pretty rural area, so not a whole lot of starting/stopping). I'm getting, at absolute best, 15mpg highway (65mph, A/C off, conservative acceleration). This is exactly (if not less) than the mileage I got bone stock! Issue 2: High Boost, Low Power Accelerations When moderately accelerating, I take a look at my boost gauge, and I am seeing 25-30psi, with no real power to show for it. It's almost as if the truck is trying to make power, but it's not accelerating like I feel it should. However, when I floor it, it's like it suddenly wakes up and slams me into my seat! What's strange is that when I do that, the boost level doesn't increase with the sudden power increase. Issue 3: Shuttering of Truck after TC Lock Another thing I'm noticing is that when I feel the TC lock (around 50mph), I notice a slight shuttering, or "surging" of the truck, but it doesn't feel like it's the motor doing the surging. It literally feels like a manual tranny with a worn out clutch (makes me feel like I'm in a Jeep). This issue is worse when in Tow/Haul mode, and the TC locks around 45mph (REALLY bad surging). When at high speeds, making lots of power, when I let out, the truck shutters back and forth for a second or two. All I can say is, the truck feels very "loose" - but the tranny is shifting somewhat normal I'd say (it rarely shifts hard or slips). ============================= I have to assume this is related to my problems with fuel economy - as I read about people with my exact setup getting 15 city and 20+ highway. Any suggestions?? Last edited by haywired; 10-24-2010 at 08:04 PM. |
