6 speed manual bad at 45000 miles?
I bought the truck (2008 f250 4x4 6.4) used with 29000 miles and its always had a growl noise in 4th gear and slightly in 2nd, now it grinds shifting up into 3rd and down shifting into 3rd. Did my 3rd gear sync go out? Anyone else have this problem?

That's what it sound like to me. Good thing the tranny's covered under the 60,000 mile warranty. Mine is dead silent in all gears. Except idling in neutral you get that dang tranny slap.

Thanks for your replies. I will try to get the truck to the dealer this week. Im happy to hear that most of the manuals are doing good, and I was happy to read on powerstroke nation that someone else had syncros go bad with alot less miles so Im not the only one.

I haven't had any problems with my syncros but my clutch is slipping like crazy. Maybe because i'm running the spartan 250 on it

Sounds like the previous owner didn't know how to shift. Good luck

I had time yesterday to talk to the dealer I bought the truck from and they told me the transmission is only covered by the 3year/36,000 mile warranty, therefore would not be covered even after I told him my warranty manual says 5year/60,000. So I called the next closest dealer (about 70 miles) and they say it does fall in the 5year/60,000 and to bring it down right now and he will try to have it back by the end of the week. I wonder if the first dealer would have taken my money or realized it was covered. I know the sales dept and the service dept are different but I have been eyeballing a 2006 Crew Cab King Ranch FX4 DRW with 78000 miles they have for $28,000., now I dont think I want to do business with them anymore.

Sounds like the previous owner rode the hell out of the clutch and tried to shift a lot without the clutch engaged entirely.
