Noise was the cooling fan clutch engaging.

Did the gauge in the dash indicate an overheat condition?

Trans cooler is on the bottom half of the radiator behind the intercooler. It's about 6"-8" high, and the width of the radiator, plus there is a tank cooler in the RH tank on the rad.

A stock truck will run 230 degrees while towing. I towed about 5000 lbs to oklahoma city and back (1000 miles or so) and my truck was in stock mode at the time. I didn't have time to put my delete back on before that trip. I was seeing 1300* EGT, 228* oil and 230* transmission temp on a pretty frequent basis. This was just cruising at highway speed 65-70mph. There were some hills involved.

The cooling fan will come on in low speed mode at 223*, and switch to high speed at 225*. I didn't get a chance to re-program and install my delete, but I still ran the dashdaq for gauges.

wow, we just towed a 5500lb trailer with another 1200lbs in the bed on the 150 tune and the highest trans temp we saw was 170 and that was climbing 2 seperate passes of about 3500 feet and 6% grades. And thats with my 37's on the truck running the speed limit. I can't recall seeing my EGT's hit higher than 1200.

Dusten, pulling my 15,000# 5th wheel around here in Washington pulling White Pass my EGTs will be 1200/1300 and tranny will stay under 200 all the way up, my oil temps will stay under 210, BUT.... when I was pulling in Arizona (September) the egt's still stayed 1200/1300 but my trany saw 220/230 at times and my oil would get to 230 easy, so I believe outside temps have alot to do with the temps that the fluids reach during pulling, but for the post you answered I think he was running a bit high as it didn't seem he was really hauling that much weight.

How different should the oil and coolant temps be? I was towing heavy the other day (very heavy), and temps were getting pretty high. Coolant would stay around 200 or so, while the engine oil would reach 215 plus degrees. Egt's were also pretty high at times. This was towing with the 210. I NEVER tow with the race tunes (275, 310) I heard the oil is trash at 230*

On the way up to OKC, I had the empty trailer, and it was pretty hot. All the temops were waaay hotter than I thought they would be. Especially running stock. I knew the EGT would be higher, but I didn't think everything else would be high too.

On the way back, it was mostly at night, so the ambient temp was a lot lower. Even with towing 10,000 on the way back, I really didn't see the consistently high temps like I did on the way up there. It would get over 210 on the oil and water, but the trans got around 205.

I still need to get around to changing my fluid.

Mine seemed to be linked to the coolant temp. Consistently the fan came on when the coolant got to 223*, and then went to high speed at 225*. I don't remember what my oil temp was at that point. It might have been the oil temp that triggered the fan while I was looking at the coolant temp.
