Instrument cluster swap

Hey all, was wondering if I can swap in a instrument cluster out of a lariat into an xlt?

Are the clusters plug and play?

Is the millage stored on the cluster in these trucks?

Will I get a temp/compass read out?

Just upgraded from a obs 7.3

you wont get temp/compass through the cluster. the temp runs through the digital climate control on lariats. ive got an fx4 and added an auto dim mirror with temp and compass built in....its from an...**ahem**...chevy tahoe, but hey it fits perfectly and you cant tell its a gm part..unless you look at the temp sensor behind the grill.

not too sure about your other questions, but hopefully someone can chime in! but if its like the 04-08 f150s (im familiar with those), the mileage is stored in the cluster and they need to be programmed with your truck's "as built" data in order to operate your a/c and door chimes correctly.

Mileage is stored in the cluster among other modules.

It will need to be programmed, but I'm not sure it will work properly since the XLT trucks have a button in the cluster to cycle through the information center.

The Lariat cluster(s) have a set of three buttons on the dash to do this. I am not sure if the wiring is there, but if it is you will need a new cluster surround and the buttons as well.

As for the compass and temperature you will likely need to add sensors for those.

You will also need a scanner that can do a parameter reset, and program keys, and have both your keys available when you swap it out, since part of the PATS functionality is in the IC.
