IPOD/DVD on stock navigation, updated map for nav??

Is there a way to play a dvd using the stock navigation system. Also, is it possible to control your ipod using the stock unit, besides plugging it in the in-line port? Anotherwords, is there a way to leave the ipod in the glove box and have full control of it from the stock system using the touch screen? Seems like a waste of a screen considering you can't do anything with it besides use the nav, which in my opinion is no good any way. Also, how do you get an update of maps for the nav? I know this is a lot to ask, but any answers are helpful.

I'm pretty sure it will not play DVD. I've tried. Only the Nav. Disks. No to the Ipod.. it only has an input for aux. sound. No plug resource for the Ipod to plug into allowing any user interface from the Nav. unit.
