First I have never heard of a heated windshield. Till now. But that would be sweet. So I stand corrected on that one. But, a gallon of diesel is a steep bet but I'm willing to take that bet. Because last winter my mirrors iced over many a times and they never melted. My brother, dad, and brother-in-law all own 08's too and they all have a button to turn the mirror on. The window defost is on a knob. They are not XLs but we just never opted for the fancy "doo-dads." WE are too redneck for that. Our version of climate control is roll the window up or down. And, the button has a picture of a mirror on it. Like Dave said, the 07 and older models are always on. I have no idea about that, but i know in all of our trucks, they are not on unless you turn them on.

I would bet a gallon of ULSD that the '08 Super Duty manual telescoping or powerscope trailer tow mirrors have no button to engage the heated feature. The reason being, the '08 XL model offers the manual telescoping trailer tow mirrors with power and heat, when ordered with the XL power equipment group...the same mirrors are optional on the XLT trim level as well.

Anyone who has been in or owns and XL truck knows that they are built for a purpose, and that is work. Fancy doo dads and whatnot are not required on a truck of this nature. In fact even things like air conditioning are OPTIONAL on the XL. My point is that the operation of the heated exterior mirrors is intuitive...the truck does it for you. I equate it to the 4X4 system on the '05 and up Ford Escape. The system is called intelligent four wheel drive. There is no push button or dial to engage the four wheel drive...only a small 4X4 insignia on the dash to remind you that the vehicle is a 4X4 and that it will handle engaging and disengaging the system as needed.

Again, I hope this is helpful.
My XLT with Power telescoping mirrors has a power switch to engage the heat function Also, I have a Schematic to prove this.
furthermore. if your theory were true, then the switch located in the middle
of my dash would b redundant... (or useless)
please PM me for my Address in regards to my free gallon of ULSD.
-=Sam

I think part of the big problem here is no one realizes they are in the 08 6.4 FORUM not the 6.0.

Just a lil info my 99 Land Rover has a heated windshield. It has tiny tiny lines like your rear defrost but a lot smaller so you don't notice uless you put your face up to it, also it turns on the heated mirrors when your turn on your front or rear defrosters
