it's just a heat supp. for the cab. when you get the option it also adds a heavy duty alternator. i have it on mine and i have not been impressed with it. i guess i need to take it in and get it checked out. maybe it's not working right. they do have block heaters too.

Ditto.

I have this option and I still don't really notice any heat until things get warmed up (engine wise). I believe I read somewhere that it was supposed to increase the cold air temp by ~ 30 degrees. So, if it were 30 degrees outside when you start the truck, the supplemental electric heater should have you pumping out 60 degree air from your vents almost immediately. I have not experienced this.

Granted this is my first diesel, so maybe i'm getting a whole lot more heat quicker than the rest of you guys.

Just to confirm what has already been stated, this unit is not intended to heat up the engine block any quicker, it's just designed to provide warmer air to the cab prior to the engine warming up .

I have it and it works great..... well i'm snowmobiling and its cold with ice snow on the window, i fire up the truck turn the heat up to the highest setting and turn the fan on to the medium setting. and with doing this the truck is warm in about 2 -3 minutes that would be at -5 to -10 outside temp.

I don't have this and I start my truck and drive for about 10 min. without the heat on and then I can turn the heater on to worm up. At about freezing temps. I would love to add this if I could. anyone, I have an '08 with dual alt.

The supplement heater just heats the air going into the cab, it doesn't work like a block heater. The block heater is an option in most states, and you had to order the option. There are 3 or 4 states that the block heater comes standard because of extremely cold temps. Cab heater was only an option.

My turbo charger gauge goes up alittle bit and I start getting heat while the water temperature hasn't moved yet. That's how I know it's working. On a gas motor and guessing deisel motors also you won't get heat until water temperature is up!!!
