flushmount dash boat compass
i have been doing some google searching and havent had any luck...my 2010 stroke xlt did not come with a compass. a few of my past cars have had them and they've always been very helpful. now i know i could just order and install the electronic compass but i like the idea of flush mounting a boat compass to the dash somewhere...preferably the tray above the radio
has anyone ever done this? does anyone know if there would be any problems as far as depth clearance behind the radio..(im thinking center of the tray on dash)? and would there be any electonic interferences coming from the dash wiring and electronics to interfere with readings? ive seen a few flush mounted compasses for boats online. someone has to have done this before....i think it will look great. thanks for reading and i look forward to getting some answers. |

I wouldnt expect you to get anything that would interfere with a compass. Most devices now days are shielded. Depth clearance I wouldnt know, havent been behind the dash. Maybe an actual tech could chime in for that one....

I'm not a tech, but I have had the dash apart and the radio out. There is actually a decent amount of unused space between the bottom of the dash and the top of the radio, about four inches or so but there is some bracing. Taking the radio out to look around is a five minute job. But looking a the picture in the link, I'd say you'd have no problem mounting that on/in the top of the dash (except maybe getting up enough courage to cut a big a** hole in the dash).

i would bet your truck has a compass. Check your odometer, scroll through the trip meters & odometer and you should see a N,S,E or W off the far right of the numbers that will indicate the direction. I hope that made sense as I'm really drunk right now...... Whiskey!!!!!
