Instrument cluster..

When replacing the instrument cluster, the ID numbers need to match right? Also, will the mileage from the new cluster show, or will the mileage on the truck show on the replacement cluster?

My cluster was replaced under warranty and the tech told me thay had to program the milege into it. And whenI got the truck back the trip odometer matched the main odometer. That leads me to believe that the mileage count is stored in the cluster and not in the PCM (which is common with other makes).
