Steering Wheel Problem

So I had this great idea that I was going to remove the blank panel on my XLT steering wheel that covers the location where the radio controls would have gone...I was going to remove the cover to see if I had any wiring underneath so maybe I could just buy the radio controls and hook them up....

Well, it turns out that the cover is actually part of the steering wheel and not just a plastic cover that pops off...I did a pretty good number to my steering wheel trying to get the cover off....so now I have a ripped up steering wheel.....

I hear the wiring for the radio controls is actually part of the steering wheel itself...so if I order a new steering wheel with the radio controls (a leather one from a Lariat), maybe then I will be able to control my radio. I already have all the interfaces to control my Pioneer radio.

How do I remove the steering wheel and airbag? Is this something I can do myself?

I'm kicking myself right now!!!

I would not attempt to do this yourself. You should be a trained technician to remove the airbag. You need to remove the air bag first then the steering wheel.
