Anyone painted the chrome rings on the console?

I have a 08 console on the way to put in my 2005. I have ZERO chrome inside my truck and really dont care for the chrome rings on the cupholders on the 08 console. Do they come in colors other than chrome?

If not, Has anyone removed them and painted another color? I'm just curious how paint would hold up or if there is something else I need to use. Here is a pic of the rings I'm talking about.

I think you could paint them if you would ruff them up a little with a scotch brite pad and then use a good plastic primer.
