Any specific CJ-4 oil determined to eliminate the "tick"?

My truck has the "tick". I have used Motorcraft 15w-40 CJ-4, Castrol Tection Extra 15w-40 CJ-4, and Shell Rotella full synthetic 5w-40 CJ-4, and with all of them, it has had the "tick". I have read that the problem is caused by the oil viscosity, which is why it does not tick at lower temps when the oil is thicker, but tends to tick at higher temps, when the oil has thinned out. Would running a thicker oil in the summertime cause the truck to tick less?

Mobil 1 makes a full synthetic 5w-40 oil that is full synthetic but costs about $8 a quart.

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 Motor Oil

I would be interested in this also. The ticking is pretty loud on these trucks. Has anybody done any oil samples to see if anything unusual was going on? I have only seen a couple 6.4 oil samples.

I was incorrect in saying my Shell Rotella was CI-4 plus. It is a full synthetic CJ-4 oil and cost $20 a gallon at WalMart. I have corrected my first post to say CJ-4.

I use the Rotella 5w-40 CJ4 and the Ford cetane booster. My engine runs quietly and strong. The motorcraft oil (semi-synthetic - wtf) is worthless and my motor was noisy when my dealer put some in my motor. I switched it out.

The tick went away this week. I am sure it will return soon, but it's always nice when it stays gone a while. It becomes like an unwelcomed house guest. I just put in some Diesel Service cetane booster and used Shell diesel instead of Murphy Oil diesel.

Anybody got a sound clip?

I'm not sure everybody is talking about the same thing.
