Had similar problem on my 08, turned out to be TPS. New gas pedal assembly cured it. Mechanic said it's a common problem and fixed it for about $125, pedal included.
It would run rough first thing until warmed up. Threw a wrench light one time which cleared quickly. Truck went in for a transmission problem and there was a code stored for tps. New pedal a couple thousand miles ago and no problems since.
Or a second one on the driver side fuel rail for redundancy... And so the pcm knew there was a problem with the damn sensor. They are a real issue on 6.4s and always have been. They are known to give signs of a failing hpfp and have cost a lot of people a lot more money than needed to fix something so simple.
I always tell anyone who has issues with fuel to start with the frp sensor (after fuel filters)... You can check for metal in the fuel when you replace it as well to ensure you have no other issues.
Is this something that would abruptly go out with no warning signs.
