Rocker arm plastic clips. Leave them on? take them off???

So I just got all my parts in for doing my head gaskets on my 08 6.4. Of course ARP studs are on back order from the distributors but I was able to get the head gasket kit from little power shop, ARP studs from Pensacola fuel injection and complete set of rocker arms since I have some clattering and ticking coming from the engine.

I ordered the complete rails with all the rocker arms from a ford dealer and of course in shipping 4 of the plastic retainers broke. I was able to go to a local ford dealer and buy the plastic clips but these things are brittle and im worried about more breaking after install

After I bolt everything down, should I leave these clips on or take them off??? looks like they are only used for install purposes. any thoughts? about to pull the truck in to start tearing off the cab

I don't have an answer to your question but I have heard its a good idea to replace the lifters while you have the heads off. Several people have said its cheap insurance. Hope this helps

I'd say they are pretty important. One of the plastic clips fell off the rockers in the motor and the bottom cup that holds the pivot ball was almost destroyed. Job is going surprising well! Only one little plastic tube broke. Heads are off and on the bench

One thing I am going to raise hell about is with the Ford dealer who just had my turbo off in October of 2013... THEY DID NOT BOLT THE TURBO BACK TOGETHER!!!! I mean are you serious? ???? I was a technician for 9 years and never forgot something so blatant and important. I will be raising seven kinds of hell with them monday morning because the service manager was too scared to call me back today

6.4L Plastic rocker clips

Kerpal312cs,

Did you go with the plastic clips in place or take them off? I'm in the process of replacing several injectors and have two broken clips (only pulled the passenger side valve cover so far, we'll see how many are broken of the driver side).

Do they really serve a purpose other than installation. Is it more risky to have them breaking off in the engine or running the truck without them?
