Turbo Whine? Turbo Leak?

This truck is my first diesel and first turbo, so it's all new to me.

Truck: 2008 F350 4x4 CCLB, 6.4, stock (no aftermarket upgrades), 47k miles

I tow a 9k lb travel trailer once or twice a month on average and I have noticed this on my last 4 tows. On long hill climbs, the boost will go over 30 PSI and if I keep it there, I will almost always get a whine type sound that corresponds with the boost (if the boost decreases, the whine decreases; if the boost increases, the whine increases). I do not get the whine unloaded, only when towing the trailer.

Any ideas? Could it be a turbo leak? Where would I look?

I bought the truck in September. The truck was in the shop for service in January due to a bed plate oil leak and they did remove the cab to fix.

Sounds like you're just not used to hearing the real whistle of a spoiled turbo.

Is it a whine sound or a whistle sound? Mine will make a whistle sound when I tow my trailer at about 25 psi and above.

I hope its normal. I haven't noticed anything odd.

Its not really a whistle, more like blender or vacuum cleaner. I know, not very descriptive.

Turbo whine.

I also have a 2008 F350 6.4, and it whines when my turbo spools to 25-30psi. However, I do have a tuner and a few other mods on it. My turbo will whine even when its not under a load. Its in the shop now, so hopefully this will be in the past soon.

Check for soot on the firewall near the turbo and up pipes. Could have a cracked up.pipe
