Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses = $700.00 :(
I took my wife's 2009 PSD to the dealer yesterday for an oil change.
I also have been noticing a small coolant leak coming from what i believe is the EGR that is dripping on the front differential. Told the service writer about this issue.
The truck is out of the 3/36 warranty but is still under the 5/100 powertrain warranty. Truck has 40K miles.
So, I got a call from the dealer saying they upper and lower radiator hoses needed to be replaced as they are leaking. Cost is about $700.00. Wow... I declined.
I did a little research here on Powerstroke.org and I see this is not a unique issue. I called the service writer back and told him about the tsb, he said he would check with the service manager and the warranty person at Ford. He called back this morning and told me that in order for the hoses to be replaced under warranty the radiator has to be leaking as well. He told me that my radiator is not leaking, though leaking hoses will cause the radiator to leak. I tried to tell him that we should be preventitive and save us all some time and money, but no luck.
Since I have a year left on the 5/100 warranty, I guess I hope the radiator starts leaking! Maybe we can accelerate "wear" on the radiator somehow? By the way, the truck has not lost enough coolant that I have had to add any, the leak is just more like an ooze with an occasional drip.
