Want to be sure I need a HPFP

I have a 2008 F350 with 236,000 miles on it that has started throwing the P0088 code. When I purchased the truck it already had the DPF delete and a tune but I didn't get the tuner. To my knowledge that means I can't go in for the reflash that is available from Ford, correct?
From what I have found searching around here it sounds like it's the MPFP most of the time but I would like to be sure before I replace it. I have replaced the pressure sensor and unfortunately that didn't take care of it.

Is there a way for me to rule out the lift pump and any other possibilities?

Thanks,
Greg

After ford came out with the updated flash to fix some p0088 DTC's, H&S and Spartan released updates to their tunes. If you have tuner dealer near you that does upgrades and service see if they can help.

We are starting to see trucks, often coming through auctions, that have DPF delete and sometimes EGR delete that are setting DTC codes, regening, smoking and no tuner is provided. Usually the solution we use is to buy an XRT pro race and load a new tune of known quality. Expensive at $1000 +, but otherwise the truck value is seriously affected.

That being said you still may have a bad HPFP but you do need to get to a known tune status before you replace the HPFP..

Thanks for the advice.

I have an SCT X3 sitting around that I can have cleared and a new tune loaded on it. I'll start there first and see what happens.
